PLAINFIELD — Derek “DB” Crager of Crager Bartels Real Estate in Plainfield recently joined the Saturday morning show “Pet Pals TV.”
“It started out as a posting on Facebook by Patty (Spitler),” Crager said. “She was looking for a Realtor for the show and got a whole bunch of responses. One of them was mine.”
Crager was one of 75 candidates. He was interviewed by the producer and earned his spot on the show.
The show airs at 10:30 a.m. each Saturday on My Indy TV 23. “Pet Pals TV” is hosted by Spitler and Paul Poteet.
“My love of pets started out when I was young,” Crager said. “I grew up, not on a farm, but on five acres ... complete with barn, pasture, and a big yard to cut every week.”
As a child, he said he had dogs, cats, hamsters, birds, fish, horses, and ponies.
“Doing the show is fantastic,” he said. “And all the work goes to a good charity. Each week I share tips for pet owners. It may be about sharing the pet poison hotline or what the common plants and medicines are that can make your pets sick.”
On this week’s show, he will be discussing how to deal with pets who have anxiety during severe weather.
“A lot of pets have phobias,” Crager said. “When they get upset, they can do a lot of things, like tearing up curtains or the rest of the house.”
Crager is on staff at Crager Bartels Real Estate at 2430 E. Main St., Plainfield. He began his career in real estate in 1999.
“Seven years after I purchased my first home and five years after I purchased my first investment home,” he said. “I worked for a small commercial real estate broker in Indianapolis. Small, but award winning. Pat Galyan of Galyan’s Sporting Goods was probably our highest profile client.”
Crager earned his Indiana Real Estate Broker’s License in 2000 but didn’t open his first office until ‘04.
Crager wrote a book entitled, Should I Quit Real Estate? It turned out to be a real estate best seller and sold out on Amazon.com twice in six months.
