Crager-Bartels and SCORE Team Up To Benefit Riley Hospital For ChildrenOn June 4, 2010, SCORE Chapter 6 was represented by two outstanding foursomes who participated in the 2010 Indianapolis Air Show Golf Outing at Winding Ridge golf course. This is an annual charity event that benefits the Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

This year, there was extremely intense competition between the two teams representing SCORE Chapter 6. Although neither team won the Indianapolis 2010 Air Show Golf event, there was plenty of goodnatured competition. Of course, the winners were the Riley children who benefited from the funds raised by this event.

One SCORE team (shown above) consisted of Rick German, Rick Hinderliter, Bob Bailey, and Derek Crager. Derek replaced George Clinton who was on last year’s team. (This year, George decide to avoid the embarrassment and travelled to Argentina!) Prior to this year’s event, however, it was widely rumored that Derek was the long-awaited SCORE “long hitter” and that the challenge would be a “gimme” for this team and essentially be “no contest”. Unfortunately, reality struck and this team had great difficulty with most aspects of their game (mainly their putting) and blamed their loss on the distracting noise from the Nanchang CJ-6A’s flying directly overhead. (At press time, we were not able to view this team’s scorecard because it was reportedly blown away by the wind! However for the record, unnamed sources indicated that their score was actually “3-under”.)

This “dream team”  completely erased last year’s defeat from memory and easily won the SCORE inter-team challenge with a remarkable “7-under”. Capitalizing on last year’s experience, this team focused on making the long putts with a daring combination of courage, skill, and pure luck.

Bragging rights, no doubt, will continue to be in play throughout the entire coming year and will only be quieted by what happens in next year’s event. Both teams look forward to next year’s competition and to again helping “Riley’s Kids”.
